A Guide to Add Addon Domain in BlueHost Hosting?
Let’s understand this with an example.
You have bought a domain name from GoDaddy and now you want to add this domain name to BlueHost hosting account. Before adding this domain name to your BlueHost hosting account, you need to point GoDaddy domain to BlueHost hosting.
You can checkout below article to point your GoDaddy Domain to BlueHost.
How to Point GoDaddy Domain to BlueHost?
After pointing the domain to BlueHost, you have to simply add you domain as addon domain to BlueHost account. You can follow our step-by-step guide to avoid any mistake.
Step-1: First you need to login to your BlueHost cPanel.
Step-2: Now click on Domains tab at the top, and click on assign.
Step-3: Here select “Use a domain that is not already associated with your account” and enter your domain name which you have registered with your existing provider. In this article, we have taken the example of GoDaddy domain registrar.
If you have bought your domain name with BlueHost, you have to select “Use a domain that is already associated with your account” and choose from the drop-down list.
As soon as you type your domain name, BlueHost will automatically verify the ownership of your domain name by checking the Name server of the domain name.
Note: You have already pointed your domain name to BlueHost with the help of above mentioned article.
If your domain name is still not verified, BlueHost will give you alternative options to upload a sample file to verify the ownership of your domain.
Step-4: So here if you want to install a new website, you need to select Addon Domain. If you want to allow multiple domains to point/reach at your primary domain, you need to select “Parked Domain“.
Step-5: In next step, Bluehost domain manager will automatically use your newdomain name to give a directory to the domain name. The directory structure will look like public_html/newdomain.
When you add an Addon domain to your BlueHost account, three things happen:
- A new folder is created in the ‘public_html‘ directory named like newdomain.
- A sub-domain is created for your primary domain and attached to the new folder.
- The new domain name is associated with the sub-domain.
That’s it! you have successfully added Addon Domain in BlueHost hosting account. By this way you can add unlimited domain names and install WordPress to start a blog.
